Soviet Invasion of Hungary Day Update

We decided to solemnly commemorate the 70th anniversary of this event by invading Nottingham with SOMKIYR. Unfortunately, he did not treat the occasion with the racing excellence and gravitas it deserves but is keen to be in a re-enactment of the subsequent USSR versus Hungary water polo match in the Olympics which turned into a whistle-to-whistle punch up.

Returning to racing concerns, we had our first two jumps runners of the autumn this week and they ran very pleasingly. Having only got over to Woldingham for the serious hard exercise last week, the worry was that they might be on the wrong side of the line between fit enough to run and fit enough to compete, but that did not prove to be the case.

First of them was EVERYONESGAME in a two and a half mile hurdle at Plumpton. Always travelling and jumping well, he teased that he might go in at the first attempt when being the last runner still on the bridle passing the train station, but when he came under pressure, the unexposed eventual winner emerged from his own flat spot and condemned Everyonesgame to second. A day later SUZY WOOD ran to similar standard of encouragement at Lingfield. Her problem was mainly a very well handicapped opponent who was reinvigorated by a change of yard, but she missed out on second by half a length too, in a three way scrap for the places. We would imagine both can improve a bit for the run. Later this week we have Ephyra (Fontwell) and Los Blanco (Sandown) ready to get going.

Meanwhile, here is a post-race picture of Everyonesgame feeling satisfied with himself.
