August Bank Holiday Update

Firstly, it is not too late to sign up for our National Racehorse Week open day, on Saturday 14th September. There will be all sorts of horse activities going on during the morning, plus a charity raffle in aid of MIND and ROR. Refreshments in the form of hot food and hot or cold drinks will be available, but cash only please. We will have quite a wide range of horses around, from the ghostly retired Cagliostro to the young and unraced Suzy Wood and Monansunu.

Following are some pictures from last year’s event – a repeat of the weather would be appreciated!

There is only a minor update on runners, and that was VILLEURBANNE ran at Salisbury and lost two shoes in the race. He has now been retired, as the persistent loss of footwear indicates that his feet are not really sturdy enough to endure racing and training. Also retired before the season are BEAUFORT WEST (a combination of age and fading interest in racing) and HESBEHINDYOU, who had lost his ability to stand up to a proper training regime. After a serious back operation, he burst a blood vessel extremely badly on the gallops at Woldingham, and we had not been able to get him back to the state of wellbeing that he had in the past.
