End of November round-up
After a spell of encouraging runs all round, the outings around the end of November were notable for not all turning out to be the steps forward expected. GODOT got bogged down in the copious mud at Southwell, BACKINFORGLORY found the lesser sogginess at Lingfield still a bit too taxing (she looks like good ground will be her thing) and EKLIL burst a blood vessel on his hurdling bow at Huntingdon, where we took YOUM DEJRAAN out of his bumper debut due to concern that the going was a bit too quick. To paraphrase Eric Morcambe, we had all of the right races, but not necessarily at the right courses. That is the ying and yang of racing, or the light and the shade, or the biryani and the plain rice cake. A more positive note was at Lingfield in a novice hurdle where the final results do not jump out but there was significance in MISTER MOSE completing successfully on his comeback from a fairly serious injury and VINTAGE ICON, in his first hurdle spin, showing the improved mental maturity on the racecourse that he had been demonstrating at home. Both were displays that can be developed upon. And SHAW’S CROSS finished fourth on the same card, with the long run-in caused by the last fence being omitted seeing him in a sprint against a five year old and that probably cost him third place.
