End Of Jumps Season Update
Today (April 26th) would have been the 100th birthday of commentating legend David Coleman, inspiration for Private Eye’s “Colemanballs” feature collecting idiotic things said on television and radio. Enjoy these wisdoms:
- He just can’t believe what’s not happening to him
- It’s gold or nothing…and it’s nothing. He comes away with the silver medal
- Here are some names to look forward to, perhaps in the future
The season ended on a high with GOLD CLERMONT back in the winners’ enclosure. The ground would have been borderline for her but the opposition had their own question marks to erase, so it seemed well worth taking a chance. In the end she nudged home by a short head with Chad giving her a very good ride. One of the nerve-wracking things about opposition that have been on good recent form is their annoying inclination to refuse to just drop away when they come under pressure and that was the case here. But cheered on both at Fontwell and apparently from some widely scattered locations around Europe, Gold Clermont made it home by a broad whisker.

Other recent runs had faltered on firstly a lack of recent match practice for TROPICAL SPEED at Fakenham and secondly the ground conditions when it was too quick at Warwick even for non-mudlark EVERYONESGAM. Those two should keep on the go for a while yet.
Our next action might well be on the flat, as veteran sprinter and unwilling retiree LETHAL BLAST is entered at Lingfield. It would extraordinary if she were to win after four years off but hopefully she will show enough enjoyment to persevere with the comeback.
