Jaz Coleman’s Birthday Update

The first runner since the previous update was the returned GOLD CLERMONT, who went to Exeter for the Devon National as she became unqualified for the Eider Chase due to Mr Vango declaring. We had to set off prior to the morning inspection, the existence of which was fairly good news, because splashing around in very wet conditions is her thing. Unfortunately, the surface dried out a lot, leaving slimy, holding conditions that she views less favourably and she was not at her best. The good sign was that by racing up with the pace she jumped well and showed some verve until joining the mass pull up before enduring the worst of the uphill climb. There is still something to work with there.

We then took SOMKIYR (see picture below) and GODOT to Plumpton without anything to show for it, although the latter was chancing a drop back in distance as there was not an ideal race around for him, and that piece of radical thinking did not work. And finally new girl BACK BEFORE DARK went to Lingfield on the flat, got drawn on the outside and forced wide throughout the race, meaning she was never a factor.

Away from the racecourse, there was not much positive to report. LOLA DE MAGNY missed a Fontwell appointment due to ripping off a shoe, YASMINA was slightly lame but when she recovered SUZY WOOD decided it was her turn to be lame, and that was on the day of a Plumpton race that she was declared for. BIRDMAN BOB has a suspensory ligament injury and worst of all, we lost MONANSUNU to colic. All in all it added up to a week to forget.
