Teacher’s Day (in Sri Lanka) update

We have had a smattering of runners since the last update. The best of them has been new pupil TROPICAL SPEED who was a very game second under topweight at Newton Abbot. The winner really pinged the last two in a way that Tropical Speed did not and it may have been a different tale had our lad matched those jumps. At the other end of the scale we had suspension justifying efforts from FLEMEN’S TIPPLE at Plumpton and Fontwell. He has become rather jaded with racing under Rules so we are looking for a new home and job for Tip. He would make a cracking riding horse but as he is inherently a very good jumper, a spell point-to-pointing may well freshen him up mentally. Please get in touch if interested in having him for either purpose.

There is not likely to be a sudden surge of racing activity in the coming weeks as our preferred gallop for finishing off the homework, at Woldingham, is still pretty firm. Storm Amy did her best, but with a dry week following, she really needed to try harder. So the report card reads as an A- for Tropical Speed, C- for Storm Amy and a D for Flemen’s Tipple.

Today is also the 425th anniversary of the world’s oldest known opera, Euridice, being first performed. Tragically, the teaching puns were better than the opera puns, so that was the update theme chosen.
