Pancake Day Update

Admittedly it is not yet Pancake Day, but there is not likely to be an update before that, so this is the Pancake Day update. Clear as mud?

First out of the gate in February was EKLIL, going back to the flat after a rest following his unfortunate jumps debut. In his old yard they did not persevere with him as an all-weather type, but he ran decently, keeping on late and just missing out narrowly on a close fourth place. There is a good chance of him having another shot at the flat job next time.

After that quick jaunt up the road to Lingfield, the next day saw less travel friendly scenario, heading up the A1 to Market Rasen for non-optimal scenario of BACKINFORGLORY in race one and FLEMEN’S TIPPLE in race seven. Backinforglory ran blinder, going for home two out and ending up second in a big field, having travelled sweetly all the way. Had she managed to outjump her rival at the last, might there have been a different outcome? After it got dark, we had Flemen’s Tipple in action. He made one mistake but otherwise jumped excellently on chasing debut and just got tapped for toe in the home straight, ending up fourth.

Backinforglory giving the winner the evil eye.

We picked up a couple of new additions at the sales last week too. For Ian Beach, a new owner to the yard, we bought CRESTA CAT, a four year old with four races tackled, including a narrow second over a mile and half last month. His sire, Bobby’s Kitten, although a Breeders Cup Turf Sprint winner, did come home in front four times over a mile. He has produced a handful of winning jumpers from only a few that have tried the job. Meanwhile his dam, Alpensinfonie produces horses with stamina and has had three of her other four raced foals win, including two of them over hurdles. We also picked up a nice looking four year old filly, YASMINA, who has career results of 423, the last couple over a mile. Her sire is Iffraaj whose record as a jumps sire is surprising good for a horse that never ran beyond seven furlongs – more than a third of his jumpers have won at least once. Her dam, Wilamina, has no other raced foals but was a Group 3 winning miler at Epsom and a listed winner over a mile and a quarter. Yasmina is for sale.
