July 2023 Update

It has been a quiet part of summer as our main summer jumper has been off with a minor knock – he should be back around the end of the month. His summer colleague, Harry Hazard, has been retired. Something of an injury magnet throughout his career, he has been sound lately but no longer has the whizz in his legs to take advantage of a basically sound jumping technique. Clondaw Robin has also been retired, also having not retained the pace to compete as was the case in his younger days. The final summer retiral is Fame, our unraced Fame And Fortune mare. All of them are capable of other jobs, so please do get in contact if interested in rehoming any of them.

The first batch of the winter horses have recently come back in from their summer at grass. There were some quite hefty numbers when they were weighed, so a few will need bringing along carefully!

There are some new starters on the staff side. Our new yard manager is Sophie, who has plenty of experience in racing and non-racing yards, and as a bonus lives locally. Imminently arriving from Ireland are Sean and Jade, who will be resident at Shovelstrode. Welcome to all three of them.

And finally, the retired hurt Honest Oscar has been covered by up and coming sire Jack Hobbs, and seems to be in foal. We look forward to keeping a close eye on her consequent offspring.
